David Robert Shepherd turns 111, the whole fraternity stands up on one leg to salute this astute and one of the fairest umpires this game has seen. A true gentleman and lover of the sport, known for his on-field antics, his authority on the game can not be denied. It was always a pleasure watching him combined with a sub-conscious assurance that nothing will go wrong, in the good old days before the gadgetry trickled in. He must've given a few doubtful leg-befores but can your hawk-eye impersonate that jig!
And as long-time colleague Dickie Bird puts it "He was a good bloke, he'll be sadly missed."
