The days of the never-ending Sale are back, driving up a frenzy amongst not only the women in the city. What always perturbed me about these Sale ads / posters is the orthography of their near mandatory word UP TO, the rendition of which borders on the edge of a lexicographer's nerves. Now, these are two very distinctly respectable single-syllable words and what is mandatory is the use of space-bar between them.
I know its part of our rich kitsch culture, to misspell words but designers (in this case in-house designers / dtp operators), need to take note so as not to prompt highly meticulous and language sensitive citizens like my dad to sarcastically pronounce it as - UPTOE!
